TikTok taps Ninja Van as logistics partner in 3 SEA markets in social commerce push

NINJA VAN, has been appointed as TikTok Shop’s logistics partner in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Through this partnership, online purchases checked out on TikTok Shop in Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines will now be picked up from sellers, sorted in hubs, and delivered to shoppers by Ninja Van. 

With TikTok Shop enabling brands and sellers to sell within the TikTok platform and Ninja Van delivering shoppers’ purchases from pixels on screens to parcels on doorsteps, SMEs can now focus on perfecting their products for their customers.

Lazada says metaverse, AR, VR seen to improve ecommerce experience

ECOMMERCE platform Lazada sees technologies such as the metaverse, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) helping improve the shopping experience of customers in Southeast Asia.

“The shopping experience will continuously evolve. We see the next-generation shopping experience maybe on AR, VR, and metaverse. It would take time to get there. I strongly believe in the metaverse, but it requires a lot of technology such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, 3D modelling, maybe also cryptocurrency. There are a lot of new technologies,” Lazada Group Chief Technology Officer Howard Wang said.

Private sector confident of better PH economy

THE Philippine private sector expressed confidence the domestic economy can pull through despite weak peso and rising prices of commodities.

Teresita Sy-Coson, vice chair of SM Investments Corp., attributed the thriving MSMEs in the country to the lack of foreign direct investment, noting “The way I see it, has been made up of a lot of small and medium industry and especially the micro ones, and they are the ones which have been supplying the jobs among themselves.”

Lazada insists ‘zero tolerance’ for fake items, but can’t inspect them one by one

ONE of the leading Southeast Asian eCommerce giants claims that they “don’t tolerate” the sale of counterfeit products on their platform — but they’re still working on how to completely purge the online marketplace with inauthentic products.

80% of Cordillera MSMEs have adopted online systems: DTI

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) bared that more than 80 percent of the over 20,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region have adopted online systems in their operations and are visible on the internet.

Juliet Lucas, regional director of the DTI-CAR, said digitalization was infused in marketing and in the accounting inventory system with the help of science and technology.

Filipinos aware of cyberthreats but don’t protect themselves

FILIPINOS are largely aware of cybersecurity threats while paying for stuff online, but rarely protect themselves by installing anti-virus software on their phones, according to Kaspersky.

“About 89% of Filipinos use a digital payment system and there is awareness about threats among 97% of them,” adding that 67% of Filipinos know about the importance of installing anti-virus software. But only two of 10 Filipinos have actually installed security solutions on their devices, Suguru Ishimaru, Kaspersky’ senior malware researcher in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, said.

ICTSI enters freight forwarding business

RAZON-LED International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has entered into a P25-million joint venture deal with a Pampanga-based firm to put up a freight forwarding company.

According to ICTSI, the transaction will minimize costs and improve efficiency on the processing of cargo to be used by ICTSI for its various operations nationwide.

BSP to prioritize digitization in next 2 years

BANGKO Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said on Tuesday it will also prioritize the digitization of financial products and services in the next two years.
